Alabama courts and clerks’ offices remain open and operational at this time. However, all in-court hearings (with very limited exceptions) have been cancelled beginning on March 16, 2020 and extending through at least April 16, 2020. All filing deadlines that are set to expire between March 16, 2020 and April 16, 2020 are extended to April 20, 2020, but only if those deadlines cannot be met via electronic filing. Out-of-court activities, such as depositions and mediations, are not prohibited and are to be determined on a case-by-case basis by the parties involved. All bankruptcy hearings are continuing as previously scheduled, but are being held telephonically in all three districts.

Alabama does not currently have any state-specific moratoriums in place with regard to default servicing such as foreclosures, evictions, or collections cases. Alabama law firms must adhere to the foreclosure and eviction moratoriums that have been put in place by the federal government.
